Notice that I named this post "Boudin Part 1" because I have a feeling that I'm nowhere near done with this discussion. Yesterday I posted the question "Best boudin in the Acadiana area?" on my Facebook page and got quite a few responses.
First of all, let me explain what Boudin is for those of you who don't have access to this Cajun delicacy. It's generally a mixture of rice, pork, onions, bell peppers and seasonings stuffed in a sausage-like casing - and it's delicious!
Today my family headed to the top 3 mentioned places - The Best Stop, Billy's and Don's Specialty Meats - to do a little "research".
All three of these are all located in Scott, La, also known as the Boudin Capital of the World. From Baton Rouge, head West on I-10 and take exit 95 where you'll find all three stores within about a mile of each other. It's about a 90 minute drive from Baton Rouge but totally worth the trip.
For our taste test, we picked up 1/2 pound of Boudin and a few Boudin Balls from each location. Although we picked the Pepper Jack Boudin Balls from Billy's as our favorite ball, hand's down we thought The Best Stop had the best Boudin links. Don't get me wrong though, I wouldn't turn any of them down.
Since I had such a huge response from y'all about where to find YOUR favorite Boudin, I'm going to continue this Boudin crusade. Please continue to share your favorites and look out for future updates.
