3rd Annual Battle Against Autism Car Raffle - Win a 2013 Lincoln MKZ

Here's a great guest post from The Baton Rouge Speech and Hearing Foundation. They are hosting a raffle to win a 2013 Lincoln MKZ from Robinson Brothers to raise money for a larger facility (The Emerge Center). This center will help treat three times as many children and families as they are currently able to. Please read to find out how you can help.

Hi, Baton Rouge Mamas! Before I go on, I want to give a big THANKS to Maggie, The BR Mommy Blogger! We really appreciate your support in helping us spread the word.

I am Brandi Monjure and I’m working with The Baton Rouge Speech and Hearing Foundation (BRSHF). If you're not familiar with BRSHF, it's a 52-year old community center that serves children and adults with communications & other delays. BRSHF also provides the only early intervention program in our region for children diagnosed with an Autism Spectrum Disorder. Here’s a story from one of our parents with an Autistic child:

“My daughter Averie is 3 ½ now, and when we had her evaluated by Pediatric Neurologist Dr. Hollman, her prognosis was that Averie was Autistic. Autism is different in every child and there is no way of saying what will make her better, you just have to try it all! So at age 1 ½, we began putting her in every therapy possible. Dr. Hollman strongly advised us come to Baton Rouge Speech and Hearing Foundation. If I had only known at the time that she was handing me the best prescription, I would have had a lot less tears and fewer sleepless nights.

For two years, Averie fought me every morning when I dropped her off various places, but at BRSHF, she runs to her classroom, hugs everyone, and waves bye to me with no tears and no fight! She gets Applied Behavior Analysis, speech, and occupational therapies. Thanks to BRSHF, I can breathe again. She’s been here 8 months, and for the first time, I finally hear the words "mommy" and "I love you.” Everyone under that roof is there not because it’s a job or because of the money, but because their hearts are invested and they love what they do - I can say, you don’t see that everywhere!”

- Angela, Averie’s mom

In recent years, we have seen a surge of Autism diagnosis. The CDC reports that 1 in every 88 children will be diagnosed with an Autism Spectrum Disorder. That statistic increases for our boys with 1 in every 55 males being diagnosed with an Autism Spectrum Disorder.

As you can see, the demand for the center’s services is on the rise now more than ever. To meet the growing needs of the Baton Rouge community, BRSHF must expand their capacity. We are currently amidst the 3rd annual Battle Against Autism Car Raffle. The proceeds from the raffle will go towards the construction a larger facility - The Emerge Center. Here they’ll be able treat three times as many children and families as they are currently able to! We are all so excited about this!

As parents, I have no doubt that you worry about your children every day. Knowing that The Emerge Center is available to help should your child be that 1 of 88 could make your days just a little easier. BRSHF provides the only multi-disciplinary program in our region, combining one-on-one Applied Behavior Analysis therapy with a Group Speech Therapy Preschool program and Occupational Therapy. They believe in “treating the whole child” through their program.

If you have a heart for these children and their families, you can purchase a Battle Against Autism raffle ticket here! The winner will be drawn at the Grand Re-Opening of Robinson Brothers on February 28, 2013, and will receive a brand new 2013 Lincoln MKZ.

We appreciate you taking the time to learn more about us and hope that we impacted you in a positive way today by being reminded of all of life’s little blessings (your precious little ones!).
